Bikram Yoga Leeds

When I visited what I thought to be the very last studio in England last year, I was told that a new one had opened in Leeds – between the cities Manchester and York, the first one in Yorkshire. The short trip to visit this one only studio was worth it: because of this special historical city, the history of which can be traced back to the 5th century when the name referred to a wooded area of the Kingdom of Elmet. In Leeds, old and new match wonderfully. Wherever you stand in the train station, you see water, even below the station. I also liked the Waterfront next to this station and of course the studio Vicki opened 6 months and three days ago.

The studio is located in the middle of the busy town. “The Core” is a 3-storey-building with restaurants, gyms and shops. “Eat, drink shop” is the motto. Quite different in the studio, though. Here you drink only water, make an exhausting workout and sweat profusely. The hot room provides high bright windows; the changing-rooms are surprisingly spacious with some remarkable details as the coulourful knobs on the wardrobe hooks. There is a water dispenser and there are twice as many toilets as are available in my homestudio in Zurich, where twice as many yogis are practicing.

Event though the studio is new, with a customer base that’s steadily growing, there are 23 hours in a week. Among them a special, 100-minutes-intermediate-class (all the regular postures and some special advanced postures added). Vicki, the Swedish owner, is teaching our small group in a quiet, flowing manner. She does the dialogue perfectly. I like her voice, that seems to give me power – the energy is flowing…
