Bikram Yoga Edinburgh

Emma Campion, Bikram Yoga Teacher for 14 years, opened the only certified studio in Edinburgh two years ago. The school is located in a blind alley. You have to go through an iron gate and find a warehouse at the back of the main building. My expectations weren’t too high because of this not very promising outlook. But I was surprised when Mario, the guest teacher opened the door, to find a huge entrée with cosy furniture, warm and welcoming. The other rooms are rather sparse, whereas the hot room is more than spacious.

We are 20 yogis, nearly half of them are men. It is an important day for the UK: „Parlamentary General Election“ can be read here and there. Mario from the Netherlands who started with Bikram Yoga in Amsterdam is the teacher. He has taught in Linz, Vienna, in Liverpool and even in Jakarta. He seems to know all the yogis of Edinburgh. He is teaching with speed, demanding a lot from us, he is keeping near the dialogue and finds nevertheless time to correct mistakes. The next lesson he will practice himself.

As to the triangle posture: Here it’s done the way Bikram taught it originally, not standing on the mat but across to it – with the desireable result that you can see yourself perfecty in the front mirror. A novelty for me: a red affectionate tomcat is straying through the changing rooms…
